Detail
`In its origin, the olympic games were observed as ritual ceremony dedicated to the Mt. Olympus in the ancient Greece, praying for peace and free of misfortune and lasted for 293 games until it was ruled out by the Roman Empire. Inculcated by Pierre de Coubertin, the modern olympic games was revived in the 19th century and the first olympic games was held at Athen, Greece, in 1896. Under the famous catch phrase, ``The important thing is not winning but taking part,`` it is held every four years at a principal city of the world as the biggest athletic festival of mankind. Competing with concentrated mightier strength and better distinguished skills each time from all over the nations, it is significant more than anything else by dedicating to the better understanding between the different races and nation mutual exchange of international culture.
The forthcoming 18th Olympic Games will be met at Tokyo, Japan for the first time in Asia and is perhaps the most gigantic event in the world history participated by 97 nations and comprised more than 8,000 athletes. The Republic of Korea sends more than 150 top-flight players and officials, the largest number ever organized in her experiences, to Tokyo Olympic Games and will participate to 16 major events. Wishing the best fight of her delegation and the perpectual prosperity of the olympic games, the Korea Administration issues 5 commemorative postage stamps on the opening day of the games.`
