Detail
`Korea became a member of the International Telecommunication Union, Janury 31, 1952 and this year marks the 15th anniversary of Korea`s affiliation with the Union. Since the telegraphic service began to operate in 1885, Korea had to wait the next sixty years that followed, scarcely maintaining its nominal existence and failing to keep pace with the progress in other countries before it could make a great stride one after another following the Liberation Day.
Korea today, as a member of the ITU, is greatly contributing to the world`s telecommunication system through international coordination and cooperation, while it is rendering various fullfledged communication service for the nation and the people.
Neddless to stress the importance of communication in our modern life, the telecommunication system, one of the most advance form of the communication means, ever invented by the mankind, is playing its significant part in our economy, social life, culture and the national defense as well as in our daily life. After its affiliation with the ITU, Korea has stepped up its effort to develop the communication systems, particularly with a view to precipitate the objective of the second fiveyear economic plan to modernize this country.
The communication services have been rapidly improved and enlarged to meet the demands from the fastgrowing industry, spurring its pace for modernization of communication in Korea.
This year Korea plans to install longrange microwave system. When completed, it will not only serve for the great convenience of our people but will also elevate our national prestige in the world with advanced communication system that is in no way inferior to that of the international standard.
The Ministry of Communications will issue a stamp to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the ITU affiliation and to celebrate the occasion with whole people.`
